Even in Darkness the Moonflowers Bloom @RachelW88093475
Topic - Family
My mother taught me how to garden
Picking weeds and watering often
I sat and watched the butterflies
Flitting by with the bees in the sky
She showed me a garden
Is much like a lifetime
It can flourish if nourished
Or rot on the vine
Depending on attentiveness and luck and time
The weeds are like people
We meet here and there
Who really are best
When they’re just nowhere near
But if you can determine
Which sprouts popping forth
Are worth the care and attention
Of a mother’s warm warmth
Your garden can thrive
And provide abundantly
Just like the love
From your own friends and family
She made it look so easy then
Even as seasons and storms came and went
And though I was scared of the thunder at first
I learned that it strengthens our roots in the earth
And now I’m grown
To tend my garden alone
And finding it isn’t nearly as easy
As she always was able
To make it appear to be
But to address possibly the best
Lesson she left,
It doesn’t have to be perfect
It can be a wonderful mess
So give it love but also space and room
Because even in darkness
The moonflowers bloom.
